Day 13, in company of Alan Mullholland and Wave Rover

Tuesday 3rd September

The morning is devoted to making a few circles in the water, to take some pictures and videos of our boats sailing.

The breeze is light but Paradox, under full sails, quietly cuts through the calm waters of Malahide Bay.

Aboard Wave Rover, Alan explains to Kevin how his boat works, and we quickly learn that Kevin is to become the new owner of Wave Rover II.

Benefiting from better speed, our helmsman of the moment, Eric Andlauer, despite the promise made to Alan the evening before, shamelessly enjoys making circles around Wave Rover. For the quality of the images, with each passage we get a little closer to her.

And what had to happen happens: Paradox’s mainsail comes to foul Wave Rover’s sail ! Fortunately, the absence of shrouds on our fabulous rigging limits the damage which results in a few bursts of laughter and jokes about trials and lawyers.

Back at the port, Alan invites us on his boat for a guided tour, and to answer our many questions.

Kevin then takes us to lunch at the Malahide Grand Hotel, a magnificent and luxurious establishment where we can however just enjoy the now traditional meal of Fish & Chips, accompanied by beers and Guinness.

In the afternoon, Kevin, always very attentive and bending over backwards to make our stay as pleasant as possible, takes us on a little tour of the region by car and we end up at a ship chandler where Eric treats himself to a new watch jacket and of course, a few lengths of rope to satisfy his seamanship needs.

The evening ends, as it should, at the pub, where we participate without much success in a quiz. The quiz is a real cultural institution in pubs across the Channel. Each table receives a sheet to write down the answers to a series of questions on local or general knowledge, sports, history or art that a host asks the public, and at the end of which one table is designated the winner. There is usually no prize, except the joy of having participated.
