DYNAMICALLY

For a long time, Patrick had prepared this long-term journey taking us from France to Ireland, from Soubise to Malahide.

Thus, an Excel spreadsheet presented, day by day, the different stages, tidal coefficients and times, distance to be covered, departure and arrival times, predictable speed, weather…

This schedule addressed to each of us will be presented and commented by its editor during a visio-conference between the four of us.

If Eric was known to Patrick, it was not the case of Bruno nor Christian who would discover our future quartermaster, an experienced and respected navigator in the field.

His good marine sense quickly reframed the limits and ambitions of this careful planning developed by our captain.

« At sea, nothing is predictable, and it is necessary to act in dynamic mode, that is to say in adapting permanently to the real conditions of navigation and to the different situations given » CQFD.

«Dynamically », reasonable and pragmatic posture, will be adopted unanimously by the crew as a rule of life valid at sea as on land.

This attitude will then be widely put to all sauces, commenting or justifying multiple situations where things did not go as planned, or were not planned at all…

This term and mode of operation will be exported to Ireland and dubbed by our friends in Malahide!

WHY L’ABER-ILDUT ?

A certain port of call anticipated and proposed by our captain for the trip « go » was l’Aber Ildut, Finistere.

If Bruno or Christian did not have any reason to oppose the chaining of the steps described in the elaborated program, here is that Eric, to burn-for-point, asks Patrick but why « L’Aber Ildut ? »

Good question.

In Patrick’s eyes, there is no specific or particular reason to justify this ultimately arbitrary choice.

Therefore, we will agree that a decision, before being followed by an action, would have to respond positively to the question of the genus : Why L’Aber Ildut ?

More simply, and without any consequence, the word “why” will subsequently rarely be  pronounced without one of us echoing it by “And why Aber Ildut” !

IT’S MY BOAT !

A schooner-type sailboat with junk sails is rather singular in the world of sailing boats, especially in France.

A manifestation of surprise, even of awe,  occurs when Paradox of Plym displays her beautiful blue sails…

The boats that cross her then cast glances of curiosity, admiration, and who knows, of jealousy ; photos and videos are shot…

And our captain, gratified by this interest in his ship proudly shouts like a kid at every opportunity : “It is my boat !”

IF THERE ARE ANY… OTHERWISE NEVER MIND !

The expression, « If there are any… otherwise never mind » has its origin in the bank Caisse d’Epargne agency of Labruguiere, in which Christian worked at the beginning of his brilliant and long career, as a rather unwealthy customer used to ask for a few 100 Francs bills “If there are any… otherwise, too never mind“, not knowing if his account was sufficiently stocked and being willing to make against bad fortune, good heart.

At sea, it happens that the supplies knows some defects, that a tool or a tip is missing. It is then that this resilient expression by excellence is heard, and one needs to adapt, “dynamically” !

ALAIN DELON IS DEAD

A few days before our departure from Soubise, the whole France learned the death of Alain Delon, a famous actor of patrimonial value.

The media, all media combined, had widely communicated on this national event as it should be in such circumstance…

At sea, we do not read newspapers, we do not watch television, we do not listen to the radio, but thanks to the capture of a 3, 4 or 5G network if  near the coast, then one can consult (bear) the news of the world via the internet…

For weeks, the news continued to report the circumstances and consequences of the loss of this sacred monster… To make fun of this new inflation lacking freshness, there was this almost daily announcement made to the crew :
“You know what ?  Alain Delon is dead !
