{"id":50,"date":"2022-05-03T21:43:29","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T21:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue_en\/?page_id=50"},"modified":"2022-05-04T08:48:53","modified_gmt":"2022-05-04T08:48:53","slug":"chapter-13-like-real-local-sailors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue_en\/index.php\/the-whole-story\/chapter-13-like-real-local-sailors\/","title":{"rendered":"Chapter 13 &#8211; Like real local sailors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><u>From Camaret to Lesconil &#8211; The dreadful <em>Pointe du Raz<\/em><\/u><\/h2>\n<p>After our relatively pathetic sail through the <em>Le Four<\/em> Channel two days before, where we had to motor against the tide, we had to tackle the new difficulty of rounding the <em>Pointe du Raz<\/em>, which, as already mentioned, some local sailors like to call their \u201c<em>little Cape Horn<\/em>\u201d .<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, our new friends <em>Patrick<\/em> and <em>Josi<\/em> completely demystified the challenge. Sailing there was like routine for them, and they had given us precious advice for our tide planning.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_752\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Camaret2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-752\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-752\" src=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Camaret2-300x140.jpg\" alt=\"Leaving Camaret\" width=\"300\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leaving Camaret<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We left the pleasant harbour of\u00a0<em>Camaret<\/em>\u00a0at 08h30, on September 12, waving our friends good bye.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_749\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/tas_de_pois.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-749\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-749\" src=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/tas_de_pois-300x140.jpg\" alt=\"Le Grand Tas De Pois\" width=\"300\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-749\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Le Grand Tas De Pois<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They had also recommended us to round the <em>Toulinguet<\/em> Point, just west of the <em>Camaret<\/em> cove, sailing through the rocks of <em>Les Tas de Pois<\/em>, which we would otherwise have carefully avoided. In fact, sneaking between them was a very easy sail, and a rewarding sight.<\/p>\n<p>Our first intention was to overnight in the harbour of <em>Le Guilvinec<\/em>, but our friends advised us to choose <em>Lesconil<\/em> instead, as being more \u201cyachts-friendly\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, unfortunately, we had to use our engine, the wind being too light and from the wrong direction.<\/p>\n<p>Two and a half hours later, we were motoring through the sound between the little island of <em>Le Sein<\/em> and the <em>Pointe du Raz<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a great moment. The sea was lightly choppy but the flow was with us.<br \/>\nThis time, we were right on schedule: the GPS showed a speed over ground of above 10 knots!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_750\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/pointe_du_raz_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-750\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-750\" src=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/pointe_du_raz_2-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"La Pointe du Raz\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-750\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">La Pointe du Raz<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Just a few minutes later, the famous sound was history.<\/p>\n<p>There were still some pretty overfalls here and there ahead of us, but they were mere tickles for China Blue. The crashing waves had magnificent colours ranging from jade green to dark blue.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, we rounded the <em>Penmarc\u2019h<\/em> point, then headed east for <em>Lesconil<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>There was some confusion when coming to identify our destination harbour. The 2 harbours of <em>Le Guilvinec<\/em> and <em>Lesconil<\/em> do not have very distinctive details for the foreigners we were, and are close to each other. We were uncertain and had to sail twice along the coast to be sure we were heading for the right one.<br \/>\nBut we had stopped our engine and were sailing, so it felt like we were locals, who had just gone out for an afternoon sail!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_743\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_20210912_184251.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-743\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-743\" src=\"https:\/\/leblanc.pl\/china_blue\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_20210912_184251-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Lesconil\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lesconil<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Lesconil<\/em> is a very small and picturesque harbour, nothing like a marina.<\/p>\n<p>At 18h00, we tied up China Blue alongside the harbour wall, just below the harbour office (a temporary structure). The harbour master was very friendly, so were the fishermen moored on the same wall.<br \/>\nIt must be said though, that our southern accent always brings smiles and jokes from the people of other regions, northern of us.<\/p>\n<p>It was clear to see, by the average age of the visitors and the early closing hour of the bars, that the summer season was over.
